Matt Works, 40, of Acworth, Georgia, formerly of White Hall, lost his hard fought battle with cancer on May 9, 2019, and instantly his faith became sight.
He was born August 18, 1978 in Jonesboro, Arkansas to Gerald “Nick” Works and Jackie Lanham Works.
Matt was reared and received his education in Jefferson County. He was a 1996 graduate of White Hall High School and a 2008 graduate of the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff with a bachelor’s degree in finance.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Pine Bluff and after moving to Georgia he and his family attended North Star Church.
Matt was an avid marksman and spent many hours shooting with Alex, Lance and other friends, he also enjoyed building and racing motorcycles. Known to be a prankster, no one was safe from being roped into one of his tricks. He was a genuine person and loved by many, even during his treatments he brought smiles to the faces of the other patients and staff he met and friended along the way. The thing Matt loved doing the most was spending time with his family and most importantly with his “baby girl” McKenna.
He was preceded in death by his father in 2006, his maternal grandmother, Peb Lanham, and paternal grandparents, Dale Works and Gertie Will Works.
Matt is survived by his loving wife of almost 20 years, Katie Anne Baker Works; daughter, McKenna Works; mother, Jackie Lanham Works; maternal grandfather, Jack Lanham; brother Nick Works (Carla) of Gaithersburg, Maryland; sister, Tammy Chapman (James) of White Hall; nieces and nephews, Amber, Jonathan, Kara, Ethan, Kate W., Kendall, and Kate J.; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins to whom he was very close, and many, many dear friends.
Katie and family want to extend special heartfelt thanks to the ICU staff at Emory for their dedication, unwavering support, extraordinary care and love, especially to Dr. William Reed for his research and undying hope to find a cure for Matt.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 14, 2019, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Robinson Fuller White Hall Funeral Chapel.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday May 15, 2019 in the Chapel of Robinson Fuller with Brother Kent Dixon and Brother Allen Elkins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, and per Matt, Katie and McKenna’s request, donations can be made to help others fight their battle with cancer to Emory Winship Cancer Institute through their website: under the “ways to give” tab. Memorial may also be made in remembrance of Matt to Central Baptist Church in Pine Bluff.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Matt was a co-worker of mine at Enterprise, and I remember him being so fun and full of energy and enthusiasm. When he first started there, we had quite a few interactions, and I was struck by how eager he was to learn and his overall motivation to succeed. I could tell he was going to make a name for himself at the company! He had fun and brought that fun-loving attitude to the office.

I am at a loss for words. The world lost one heck of a good man, but the party in heaven was definitely taken up a notch (or two)! Please know that I'm here for each and every one of you should you need anything. I love you all so very much! You're just like family to me. Matt will be greatly missed! I'm so thankful for the memories that he left with me.
