Obituary for Carol Ann Smith (Martin)

Carol Ann Martin Smith, 76, of Sheridan, was a people person, loved by many, who always put others first.

She passed away Sunday, March 13, 2022.

Mrs. Smith was born April 17, 1945 in Heber Springs, daughter of Orville J.P. Martin and Mary Magdeline Williams Martin.

She was reared and received her early education in Watson Chapel.

Carol Ann Martin married Donald Ray Smith March 29, 1963 in Pine Bluff.  After starting a family, she later finished her high school diploma.

She worked in several clerical positions in and around Pine Bluff.

Carol was very involved in church and activities of her four daughters.  She was a member of Hazel St. Church of Christ in Pine Bluff for many years, where she served as a volunteer with the youth group and women’s group.  While her daughters were young, she served as a Girl Scout Brownie Leader, and was active with the Watson Chapel Booster Club, PTA and Watson Chapel Band Parents Club.

After her retirement she moved to Arkadelphia, where she lived for about 20 years.  She moved to Sheridan in 2020, where she became a beloved member of Sheridan Church of Christ.

She was a passionate woman who never gave up on her family or life.  She had a very unique opportunity to join a 2006 clinical trial in Houston, Texas for an LVAD (left ventricular assist device), which pumped the left side of her heart.  She was recognized recently by Abbott Pharmaceuticals as the longest living recipient with her original LVAD device.  She had her original device for over 15 years, which is at least five more years than any other known recipient.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
